Woodland
plantation at Rackenford searched for 34 yr old suicidal man from Crediton,
Devon. Mans body (hanged) discovered in woodland by Exmoor SRT team. Weather
strong wind; heavy rain. Search terminated at 0130 on 06 Jan (5.5 dog hours).

Mid-Pennine 1 dog team (Pete Shaw) + ? MRTs.
Missing suicidal
59 year old manlast seen going to visit stables at side of Sunnyhurst Woods 35
miles from his home in Darwen. Had talked about suicide to family members.
Search of woods and small lakes carried out with 2 good indications on scent
dumps from Earnsdale Reservoir (above woods). Search terminated with nothing
found by 0745 hrs. Weather dry, moderate wind.
NOTE: Body of misper later floated to surface of reservoir close to search dog
indications.

Two walkers had departed on the hill in very bad conditions. Whilst they had a
map and compass, they were unable to use it due to a lack of experience. Keswick
MRT team had phone connection to the walkers, who had stated they were on
high ground, but unsure of where they were. A number of MRT foot teams deployed,
and the walkers were located as the search dogs were being delpoyed.

Search for 2 missing walkers aged 21-30 in Fairholmes area of Derbyshire.
Couple has set out from Langsett to Fairholmes and had become lost on the Cut
Gate Track. Mountain search carried out. Missing couple located safe and well by
Edale MRT section. Weather cold & dry. Incident terminated at 1930 hours (3
dog hours).

Called out to search farmland and woodland for a downed helicopter with 4
male persons on board after a loud bang was heard in the Blagdon area of the
Blackdown hills. Bodies of the 4 men were located by a local farmer at 0900 hrs
on 23 Jan. Search terminated. Weather blizzard. (6 dog hours).

Woodland search for murder victim carried out near Crownhill, Plymouth. Nothing

Search of quarry, fields and buildings for a 40 yr old suicidal man
missing from home in Kingsbridge after leaving a suicide note. Located by farmer
750 metres from last known position. Misper had taken an overdose. Weather
mild; showers. Incident closed at 2359 hrs.(5 dog hours).

Search for three overdue 15 yr old boys walking from Woodhead to Edale.
Father decided to check on boys at their campsite and called Police when he
could not find them. They were found safe and well in a different campsite.
Weather snow, strong winds.

Woodland search for missing 22 yr old woman (suspected murder victim)
near Brantingham, Hull. Nothing found. Ongoing Weather fine and dry. Search

Called to assist with the search for a 24 yr old TA Officer, overdue from
a walk in Bleaklow area. Found safe and well and in his opinion not lost, by a
foot section from Glossop MRT. Weather cold, dry. Incident closed at 2315hrs

Team sent to recover casualty (female walker aged 41 to 50 in Bakewell
area of Derbyshire) with broken leg but unable to find her. Moorland search
carried out and misper was located injured by MRT team.
Weather cold, dry. Incident terminated at 1400 hrs. No other details.

15 yr old girl did not return home in Consett after visiting her
boyfriend. Dog teams called to search open/woodland between boyfriends house and
own home. Girl turned up at home at about 0815hrs after staying at another
friends house. Weather very cold but clear. Incident closed at 0945 hrs (1 dog
hour).

teams(Brian Allport, Ian Thompson) + NNPSRT & NOT SRT + RAF Leeming MRT +
Borders SRT. Called out at 2100 hrs.
71 yr old fit monk/priest, walking with a group of friends from Wooler to
Carey Burn and return became separated from the party. Last seen on the path by
burn. MRT searched the burn and surrounding area overnight with nothing found.
Search resumed at daylight. After about an hour teams informed that misper had
turned up, tired and hypothermic, at farm 4km from LKP. Weather very wet
rivers and streams in spate. Incident closed at 0900 15 Mar (13 dog hours).

Hospital, Sheffield. Possible suicidal. Woodland search carried out. Misper was

Called by Police to search the area of an RTA after a car had been
located crashed at Foolow, Derbyshire and the 26 yr old male occupant had not
arrived home in Castleton. Search of farmland carried out. Search dogs stood
down after locating a shirt believed to belong to the missing man. Weather
warm and dry. Incident closed at 0130 hrs 26 Mar (6 dog hours).

Called out at 1345 hrs.
On Saturday 26th a 51 yr old male was intending to walk from
Okehampton YHA to Bellever YHA. He did not reach his destination and was
reported to Police when he failed to attend a navigation course at Bellever on
the 28th. Moorland and river bank search of Postbridge area carried
out. Nothing found. Police investigation ongoing. Weather very misty, dry.
Search called off at darkness.

Search of Kinder Scout, Edale area for 4 x 16 year old boys on a D of E
walk. Teachers requested MRT held after talking to boys on the phone. They were
located safe and well at Kinder Downfall by MRT section. Weather foggy/damp.
Incident terminated at 0100 hrs 31 Jan. (9 dog hours).

out at 0330 hrs.
Search of Langdale Pikes area for a missing 49 yr old female walker, last
seen by family in Harrison Stickle area. Located dead by SAR helicopter at base
of Harrison Stickle. Weather strong winds, snow. Incident terminated at 0930
(6 dog hours)

2 dog teams (Brian Allport, Ian
Thompson) + NNPSRT and NOT. Called out at 1313hrs.
Police were alerted by the Samaritans who had been contacted by mobile
phone by a girl who claimed to be 15 yrs old had been sexually assaulted and was
about to commit suicide. Phone call was traced to Queen Elizabeth Country Park,
Ashington. Police helicopter and dog handler searched the park with no success
and then called the MRT. After further investigations by the Police the girl was
located at her fathers house, 1km from the park. Misper turned out to be a 25
yr old woman with psychological problems. Weather sunny, good visibility.
Incident closed at 1845 hrs (6 dog hours)

SARDA dogs requested to join search for 8 yr old boy, missing overnight
from home in Street, Somerset. Found safe and well by Police in town centre just

Search for 12 yr old girl who had run away from home in Tiverton when parents
found out she was having a relationship with a 21 yr old man. Girl later

Woodland and rural search for missing 72 yr old male despondent, missing
for 17 days in Martock, Somerset area. Misper had left a will, his passport and
all his cash on his desk. Incident ongoing. Weather heavy rain (6 dog hours).

out at 1230 hrs.
Three handlers called to Copplestone, North Devon to search for a
vulnerable 38 yr old man, last seen at 0300 early on Friday morning. He had
failed to return home. Concern was high as he had taken all his medication with
him. Search of woodland and drainage ditches near PLS carried out when mans
body was located by DSRT Tavistock section. Weather warm, dry. Incident closed
at 1500 hrs (3 dog hours).
JUNE

Jun 05 NESRA 1 dog team
(Tim Wood) + Cleveland SRT.
Search Dog Tim called out as part of the Cleveland SRT response to flash
floods in the Hawnby/Helmsley areas. Search dog not deployed on first night due
to dangerous conditions and all people being accounted for. 2.5 hour search
conducted the following day; other than lots of beer kegs, portaloos, the
occasional car and dead sheep nothing of great interest was found.

Large-scale ongoing search in Goosnargh, Preston for missing vulnerable
65 yr old man. Search concentrated on Whittingham hospital grounds. Misper had a
retention span of only 5 minutes and required medication. Last seen leaving his
hospital ward. Nothing found, incident ongoing. Wx: Dry and sunny. Search
terminated at 2145 hrs.

Search for two migrant workers missing from farm in Dalton area. Stood
down on arrival when the two mispers were located drowned in the farm lake by an

Search of fields, quarry and waste land for 73 yr old woman missing from
care home in Leigh. Misper located safe but hypothermic by Police 1km outside

Called out at 2200 hrs.
Search for missing man known to have been boyfriend of missing girl
from 24 Jul incident. Areas between woodland searched, some interest shown at
one point but handler unable to follow up on initial scent dump. Scent was
dumping on an area back from the top of a small crag. Note: Misper located safe
and well under simple tarpaulin shelter by SARDA Lakes dog the following day,
some 400m from point where Search Dog Toggle had shown interest the previous
day. Wx: warm.
AUGUST

Search of mixed scrub and parkland for depressed 76 yr old man, missing
from home in Oldham. Nothing found, incident ongoing. Wx: dry and sunny. Search
terminated at 2000hrs (2.25 dog hours).

teams (Dave Herbert, Helen Morton, Pete Shaw, Andy Colau) + RPMRT. Called out at
0127 hrs.
A 25 yr old man had failed to arrive home in Burnley. Police received a
phone call from him to say he was lost on Pendle Hill. He was located approx 2
miles from his intended location, having wandered a large part of the night
before settling down to wait for light. Misper located by Dave Herbert and
navigator Steve Taylor simultaneously and escorted from hill. Wx: foggy, wet.
Incident closed at 0625 hrs.

Search for missing 32 yr old man in Wardley, Gateshead area. Misper had
failed to return home from walking his dog. Misper located by Police in Colgate.
He was physically OK but was mentally confused. Wx: wet overnight then sunny.
Incident closed at 1100hrs (3.5 dog hours).

Aug 05 Mid-Pennine 1 dog
team (Dave Marsh) + Bolton MRT. Called out at 1645 hrs.
48 yr old woman reported by husband as missing when she did not arrive at
work. Family searched area where she had previously been found. Lady was
reported as feeling very depressed and was on medication. Search of open spaces,
woodland and urban areas in Sale, Manchester carried out, with nothing found.
Note: the misper was located 4 days later by members of her family; she has
since gone missing again.

Search for 46 yr old female missing from home in Sale. Dogs carried out
search of wood and undergrowth surrounding lakes. Misper, who was possibly
depressed was located confused but otherwise well in a shopping centre by Police
.Note: same incident as above, different report. Wx: good. (3 dog hours).

Woodland search for 48 yr old Ivybridge man who had left a message that
he was going to starve himself to death. Nothing found; incident ongoing. Wx:

Search of Mulgrave woods near Lythe, Whitby for missing 14 year old girl
who had reported herself lost to Police using her mobile phone. She could not
fix any landmarks due to woodland. Estimates were made of probable position and
girl was located before search dog team arrived at RV.
23/24 Aug 05 SWERA 2 dog
teams (Alex Lyons, Matt Robertson). Called out at 2100 hrs.
Continuation search for missing 48 yr old man. Search moved to area near
Callington but stood down when Police found a letter that had been hand
delivered that day to an address well out of the area. Incidetn terminated at
1600 hrs (3 dog hours).
SEPTEMBER

Sep 05 Mid-Pennine 1 dog
team (Dave Marsh) + Bolton + Oldham MRTs. Called out at 0700 hrs.
Search for missing man in Brinnigton, Stockport. Misper was last seen on
19th Sep. he had a previous history of going missing and suffered
from depression/withdrawn/alcohol/personal problems. He also had poor eyesight
and found difficulty in walking. A search of river banks, woodland and waste
ground was carried out when the misper was located dead by a member of the
public outside the search area. Wx: dry, sunny. Incident closed at 1530 hrs (7
dog hours).

Sep 05 SWERA 1 dog
team (Dave Humphrey) + DRG Ashburton. Called out at 2015 hrs.
Search for 25 yr old suicidal man at Seaton Heights, Devon. Dog team
tasked to search farmland and a large wooded area. Whilst searching the wood the
dog struck and went in to dense woodland about 20m off the track. The dog
indicated and took the handler and navigator, Pauline Richards, to about 5 feet
from the casualty who was wrapped in black bin liners and almost fully hidden.
DOG FIND DAVE HUMPHREY AND SEARCH DOG STORM.
Casualty was hypothermic and had taken an overdose. He was extracted
semi-conscious by DRG and evacuated to the road where he was handed over to the
ambulance. Wx: Heavy rain, light wind. Incident closed at 2255 (2 dog hours).

Report of a missing male mountain biker who had failed to return to his
holiday location from a local beauty spot. Misper located by Welsh Police before
team was deployed. Incident closed at 1700 hrs.

Dog teams called to assist in search for 40 yr old female holidaymaker
missing in Cornwall. Located safe and well by Police before dogs arrived at RV.

Search of farmland for 78 yr old man missing from home after being
discharged from hospital. Found by Police back in the hospital. Wx: Dry.

A man and lady were out walking on Dartmoor when the lady injured a
muscle in her thigh and was unable to continue. Search of area and suspected
route carried out when mispers located by DSRT party. Casualty heli-vacd to
safety. Wx: Heavy rain. Incident closed at 0630 hrs on 25th (6 dog
hours).

Called to assist CRG to search for 24 yr old female missing overnight

Search for missing male walker at Princetown, Dartmoor. Moorland search

4 walkers had phoned in to the Police as they were benighted on the
southern edge of Kinder Scout. A section of Edale MRT with Ian Bunting and his
navigator Matt Hood 1/2km in front was sent to the map reference given by the
stranded party. Search dog Tyke located the mispers near Hartshorn on the edge
path, 500m from their reported position. DOG

MRT. Called out at 0120 hrs.
A man and woman had gone out walking from Seathwaite but did not return
to their hotel in Keswick by nightfall. Their relatives raised the alarm and
Keswick MRT was called out, assisted by SARDA Lakes and SARDA England dogs.
Mispers were located in Eskdale by a SARDA Lakes dog as SARDA E dogs were being
deployed. Wx: heavy rain, cold. Incident closed at 0630 hrs.

A walker on the Pennine way near the Snake Pass, Glossop reported having
heard whistles lasting for 15 minutes. MRTs and dogs called out and search of
edges and moorland carried out with nothing found. Wx: rain, becoming dry.
Search terminated at 0200 hrs (10 dog hours).

SWERA 2 Dog Teams
Alex Lyons with Aiken, Matt Robertson with Amber and Navigators Nicki Lyons and
Jamie Reading were callout to assist Cornwall Rescue Group to search for 27 year
old local gent missing from home. Dog teams stood down when he was found in
London
