3 SARDA England and 5 SARDA Lakes dogs assisted the Cave Rescue Organisation in a search near Dent for a 36 year old depressed man, who had been missing since the previous day. The man was found at 2100, deceased in a wooded part of Dent Dale by Search dog Gyp and Kevin Stead.

2 dogs assisted DSRT Ashburton and DSRT Tavistock in the search for a 51 year old despondent male missing from home, in the Haldon Forest area, Police enquiries are ongoing.

A dog and handler were called to assist with a search of woodland and water margins for a missing 85 year old male in the Cod Beck area close to Osmotherley. The man had become separated from his wife during an evening walk. He was found on a track by a Cleveland team vehicle crew at around 01:30hrs with a minor head injury but otherwise safe and well.

A search of Rombalds Moor, Skipton for a 21 year old despondent male, was carried out by a dog handler and rescue team members. The volunteers were asked to stand down in the morning with nothing found. He eventually turned up at home, safe and well. The police have not been able to establish where he was while the search was in progress.

A dog handler and rescue team members carried out a search of footpaths in the Little Stainforth area for an 80 year old man who had become separated from his walking group. He was found by his fellow ramblers at 19:00. He had slipped and sustained minor back injuries so he was evacuated by the mountain rescue team.

2 dog handlers assisted police and other emergency services in a search of the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey for a missing 8 year old boy.
A body was recovered from the river by police divers later that afternoon.

3 dogs and Handlers were called to help with a search of a semi urban area near Ripley in Derbyshire. A 93 year old woman had been reported missing from her home in the town at 20:00 the previous day. She was located at 03:30 by Nick Smith and Zak, safe but a little confused, 300m from where she lived. Zak did very well to find the lady as she was lying hidden behind very dense nettles on the edge of a park. While Derby mountain rescue team carried the casualty to a waiting ambulance, the other SARDA dogs located several items of her personal property in dense undergrowth nearby.

SARDA England dog handlers were asked to assist colleagues from SARDA English Lake district with the search operations following the fatal shootings in Cumbria. Andy Colau with his Dog Tara was deployed, with 2 handlers stood down on arrival, and 5 more handlers on standby. Wasdale Mountain Rescue team co-ordinated the search with Mountain rescue resources from across Northern England and Southern Scotland.

A search of woodland and farm land near Callington was carried out by 6 dog units and 3 rescue teams. The volunteers worked from 21:00 until the early hours of the next day with no result - Fortunately the 72 year old, vulnerable man was found by the Police at 09:00 near Holden Quay; he was safe, well, and outside the areas searched during the the night.

2 Dog handlers took part in a search of open ground near Allerton, Bradford for a 36 year old woman missing since the previous evening. Nothing was found that day, however a recovery was made from the River Aire at Shipley on 25 May, well outside the search area.

A search of farmland near Bradford was carried out by Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team assisted by a SARDA dog handler. A 31 year old woman had been missing from her home in Allerton since 26th April - Nothing was found after a thorough search - police investigations are still ongoing.

2 dog teams tasked to search woodland and water courses around Prudhoe hospital, Newcastle, for a vulnerable 16 year old girl who had run away from her carers. The volunteers were stood down at 07:00 when the missing person was found safe by police.

2 dog handlers called to assist Bowland Pennine Mountain rescue team to look for a vulnerable 77 year old lady with a serious medical condition. The search of rural areas, river and canal banks around Garstang was called off quickly after it had started. The lady had been found in Blackpool, she had been traced after having a fall in the street and being taken to hospital by ambulance.

2 search dog teams assisted with a search, in clear weather, of farm land near Etwall, Derby. An 86 year old man, suffering from dementia, had wandered away from his care home early that day. He was found, at 1300, 500m away, in a ditch, uninjured but wet and cold, by Derby Mountain Rescue team - he was evacuated by the team with the help of the dog handlers.

A search of the coastal area near Caster, Alnwick was carried out by 2 rescue teams, the Coastguard and 3 dog handlers. A 74 year old man with a serious medical condition had not returned to his car on the evening of the 12th May. Unfortunately the man’s body was found on Howick beach later that day

Alison Nicholson and Floss were called to assist Bolton Mountain Rescue team with a search for a 79 year old male - missing from a care home on the outskirts of Bolton. The handler was tasked to search the area around Doffcocker reservoir. Civilian volunteers were stood down just after midnight with nothing found. Fortunately the missing dementia sufferer was found by police later, safe, but outside of the areas searched by mountain rescue.

5 search dog teams were called to assist with a search for a missing 10 year old autistic boy near St Blazey, Cornwall . The handlers were stood down at 19:00 when the lad was found safe and well by police.

3 Dog teams were called to a search of Linacre Woods, Chesterfield, for a 24 year old despondent man. He was found at 23:50 by Search dog Megan and Dave Mason, in dense woodland -conscious, but suffering from the effects of an overdose of his medication. While the casualty was being evacuated by Edale team members; The three dogs started a property search around the point where the young man had been found. His shoes, coat, mobile phone and a bag containing partly used blister packs of tablets were all found by the dogs. The incident closed at 00:24.

A search of woodland near Beer, South Devon, was attended by 4 search dog teams. Just as the handlers were arriving at the search control the missing person was located by police. The 67 year old lady, who was suffering from dementia, was found at 21:15, wet and cold but otherwise OK - 7 miles from the point she was last seen.

5 Dog teams were called to assist with a search in clear showery weather for a group on Wessenden Moor, Meltham, who were overdue on a Pennine way walk. The 3 young men were located on the moors to the west of the Pennine way by Search dog Dodge and Wayne Thackray at 22:30. They walked back to the road guided by Wayne and other Team Members.

Bill Batson and Glen, were asked to go to Easgill by the Cave Rescue Organisation as 2 cavers were overdue from a trip down Lancaster Pot. The men’s lights were spotted from the road as they were walking off the hill they were met and accompanied in the last part of the walk by the dog handler.

A dog handler took part in a rural area search for a 75 year old male, reported missing from his home near Penzance. The search continued until 03:30 when the teams were stood down while police enquiries continued. Fortunately the missing man was back at home later that day.

Following treatment by Cornwall search and rescue team medics she regained consciousness and was handed over to the ambulance service.

The lady was spotted and picked up by an Edale Team Land Rover at 19:00 near Lands Clough before the handlers left their start points.

SARDA dog handlers were called to assist Avon and Somerset Police with a search for a depressed man. The search of Woodland in the Quantock hills was started by Exmoor team on Saturday 3rd April and continued by dog handlers on Easter Sunday and Monday. Nothing has been found so far. 2 Other searches were also carried out on Easter Monday by Dog Handlers from the South West - a busy day.

6 dog handlers called to help with a search in a rural area near Gunnislake. A 9 year old girl had become separated from her family during a walk. She was found safe and well by the police, the teams were stood down at 22:00.

5 dog teams were called to assist in a search for a 17 year old who had become lost on Bleaklow while walking from Edale to Crowden. The search controllers were able to pinpoint his position when the young man was overflown by the police helicopter. A section from Woodhead team was sent to escort him from John Track Well 3km to Crowden Youth Hostel. Stand down at 22:00.

4 dog handlers were called to search the Madwoman Stones area of Kinder Scout for 2 walkers who were lost in inclement weather with poor visibility and struggling to make progress in deep lying snow. The weather cleared at 17:00 and everyone was stood down when the couple reported that they could see farm buildings below and made their own way off the hill.

29 Mar 17:00 PDMRO DOG FIND
2 Mountain rescue teams including 1 dog handler were called to evacuate a member of a school party who was reported to have slipped and injured her back in Wolfscote Dale. There was no phone coverage in the dale and nasty weather made communications from the informant difficult, the group were not at the expected location.
A search of the footpaths and the surrounding dales was started and the search dog deployed. The injured girl and a teacher were found by Search Dog Megan and Dave Mason in Biggin Dale 1 Km from the original location. The 15 year old from Conway was stretchered off to the head of Biggin Dale. The remainder of the party had left already and were escorted off to Hartington in cold and extremely slippery conditions. Fortunately the group had been well equipped with plenty spare food and clothing, so in spite of a long wait, there were no cases of hypothermia for the teams to deal with. The incident closed at 2100.

2 Mountain rescue teams assisted by 3 dog handlers carried out a night search of moorland in severe weather at Garsdale Head, North Yorkshire. A 68 year old land owner had not returned from an afternoon inspection of his grouse moors. An overnight search was extended the next day by 5 fresh teams and 2 more dogs. The missing man was found by Search dog Misty and Des Toward at 11:30 - well equipped but cold and disabled by a medical condition. He was evacuated by rescue team members.

2 Mountain rescue teams assisted by 3 peak district dog handlers carried out a search of the area around Frog Hall, Cheadle, Staffordshire. A male despondent had been missing for 12 months. New information had led Staffordshire police to ask for assistance. Nothing found.

3 Mountain rescue teams assisted by 3 dog handlers carried out a search of the fells near Alston in wet and windy conditions.
A couple, who were lost and cold had phoned Durham Police to ask for assistance. They were located and evacuated to safety by Teesdale team members at 22:00. The Female member of the party was hypothermic.

6 peak district dog handlers and 4 teams carried out a search of the area around Torside and Crowden on the Woodhead Pass in the Peak district. A 51 year old man from Manchester who was suffering from depression, had been reported missing at the end of January. New information had led the police to ask for mountain rescue assistance a week after the bulk of snow had thawed. Nothing has yet been found - police enquiries are ongoing.

The search for a 48 year old despondent man was continued the next day with the assistance of Ken Sloan(Abbi) and Wayne Thackeray (Dodge). Nothing has been found so far Police enquiries are ongoing.
Update The missing man was subsequently found by a member of the public over a mile outside of the search area.

The lady was located by Buxton team members at the head of Grindsbrook after a 3 hour search in icy conditions. She was evacuated by Notts/Derbyshire police air support helicopter.

2 dog handlers called by Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue team to search the area around a quarry at Parbold, Lancashire. A man in his 20's had fallen into a flooded part of the quarry and disappeared. The handlers were stood down by the Police on arrival. The missing person was found deceased by the police underwater search team the following morning.

A car owned by a missing vulnerable 44 year old man was located by Police at Linacre Woods, Chesterfield. A search was carried out overnight and on the next day as well as one day the following week. 4 Rescue teams, 6 dogs, Police task force and Fire service underwater search technicians were all involved but nothing has been found.
Update: The missing person was located, deceased, on 15th October by a local farmer, outside the areas searched by mountain rescue.

A Major Search of the Coniferous woodland and Moors of the Goyt Valley involving 5 Teams and 6 dog handlers was carried out starting at 18:00 overnight on the 15th of August, and throughout the following day. The missing Person, a vulnerable lady, thought to be at risk of self harm, was located alive in a fire break at 21:00 on the 16th and evacuated by team members.

3 Rescue teams and 5 dog handlers took part in an 8 hour search of woodland around Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District. The no trace was found of the missing person, a depressed 37 year old man from Sheffield, so the teams were stood own at 20:00
After more information was received, the missing person was found, sadly deceased, by a specialist police dog on 24th September. He was outside the area originally searched by mountain rescue teams and dogs in August.

Because their resources were having difficulty operating in dense fog, Leicestershire Police asked for assistance from mountain rescue with a search near Melton Mowbray. An 80 year old man had become depressed and left his car on a country lane at around 15:00 the previous day. An initial search by a dog and handler, following up from a point where a police dog had lost the missing person’s track, was to be continued by other mountain rescue members at first light. The man was found deceased at 05:00 by Search dog Biscuit and John Coombs, he was on the edge of a wood, 1km from the place last seen.

They were able to drive home after being warmed up at Kinder MRT base. The incident closed at 1100.

3 Dog Handlers were called to assist with a search for a depressed 55 year old woman near Richmond, North Yorkshire. The missing person was found after only 15 minutes of searching, in thick woodland by Search dog Nut and John O’Doherty. She was unconscious and hidden from view under a rhododendron bush. The lady was treated by the rescue team doctor and evacuated to hospital.

11 October 20:00 Yorkshire Dales.
Kevin Stead with Gyp attended a search for a elderly lady suffering from dementia near Buckden, Wharfedale. The pensioner was found at 20:50 by a team member assisted by local farmer, she was tangled in a barbed wire fence, and quite cold, but otherwise unharmed.

While the previous incident was in progress 2 more SARDA Handlers were called to assist with a second search for 68 year old man also missing in thick mist on Exmoor. The walker and his dog were found safe and well at 17:15 on Cheriton Ridge by team members and the dog handlers stood down.

Exmoor Search and Rescue team with their dog handler were asked to search for a team of 6 lost on Exmoor during the 30-30 challenge. The group were located cold, but well, at Prayway Head by team members, while Dave Humphrey, Storm and Rusty were en route to the control point at Simonsbath.

3 dog handlers assisted with a search of Woods on the banks of the River Wear near Hylton, Sunderland following a phone call from a distressed 39 year old woman. They were stood down after an overnight search had no result.
The lady was found safe and well by police on the 11 October having been away from home for 7 days.

3 October 14:45 Peak District
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team requested assistance from SARDA with a search for a canoeist who had been swept away in a flood on the River Dane at Gradbach, Staffordshire. The missing woman was located by the police helicopter at 15:30 approx ¼ mile below where she was last seen and despite the efforts of the emergency services was pronounced dead. The incident involved several Fire and Rescue crews as well as water search units from 4 other Peak District teams.

Cornwall SRT asked for SARDA assistance with a search for a 77 year old man reported missing from his home near Wadebridge. The 4 SARDA units were turned back while travelling to the incident when the gentleman was located.

A dog handler was asked to help with a search for a 50 year old despondent man in Whitleigh woods, Plymouth. The stood down at 20:00 when the police received information that indicated the missing person was elsewhere. Enquiries are ongoing.

24 September 17:00 Mid Pennine Region.
2 dog handlers assisted with a search of farm land near Westhoughton, Lancs. The missing person, an 84 year old farmer was found, deceased, by a rescue team member at 18:00 - just as the SARDA units were being deployed.

An extensive search of woods and moorland near Helifield, North Yorks involved 6 SARDA units. The volunteers were stood down at 22:00 with nothing found. Fortunately the depressed 42 year old man was found safe by police in a nearby village the next morning, just as the team and dog handlers were gathering for a second shift.

A large scale search of Kinder Scout was initiated for a fell runner who had set out from Crookstone Barn onto the plateau at 0130 and failed to return. The runner, who had sprained his ankle, had limped back to the remote barn Via Edale by 0800 and the search was called off. 2 of the dog handlers then assisted members of Edale team to treat his injuries and transport him, by Land Rover, down the track to Hope and on to hospital for x rays.

Three dogs were called out to search for a 21 year old despondent man who had run away from Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. He was located in long grass, at 11:00 by Search dog Max and Alex Lyons. The young man was weak, confused and had some minor injuries when he was found, the police officers accompanying the handlers gave first aid and he was taken back to hospital by ambulance.

Following an evening training session Steve Ward with Bryn and Ken Sloan with Abbie were asked to search woodland near Dovestones Reservoir, Oldham for an 8 year old boy. The missing lad had run away following a disagreement with his parents. The search was called off at 2130 when the young man was found making his way home along the road.

Bill Batson and Glen were asked to assist with a search on Ingleborough for two walkers who had got lost as the light failed. They were located just before midnight by a rescue team party near to Horton in Ribblesdale.

2 Dog Teams were called to help with a search for a walker who had failed to report at the final check point of a 50 mile organised walk. The search of Kinder Scout continued until 4:00 am when the missing man, a 45 year old from Hazel Grove, made himself known to personnel in an MR vehicle at Upper Booth near Edale. The "Bullock Smithy Challenge" walk has been running for 35 years and this is the first time Mountain Rescue has been called out to assist.

3 dog teams were called to assist in a search for a 76 year old male who was reported missing from his home in Roche, Cornwall. Extensive searches were carried out throughout the afternoon and early evening by the dogs, rescue team members and the police helicopter. The man was located safe and well by police at 1800 and the searchers stood down.
