NESRA DOG FIND 1 Person
Ian Thompson (Beth) and Brian Allport (Gem) were called out to search for a
missing walker who was lost near the Scottish Border fence approximately 15
miles north east of Thropton. The conditions were misty with poor visibility.
RAF helicopter support from Boulmer was unable to fly due to the conditions. The
missing person had left the Coquet Valley on Sunday morning to walk up to the
border ridge. He became benighted late afternoon and lost his bearings.
The batteries in his GPS unfortunately went dead as did the batteries in his
torch! He did manage to contact the police via his mobile phone but again he had
not charged his phone before setting out, consequently the signal was lost after
30 minutes. Both dog handlers plus navigator searched a wide area from the
valley bottom up towards the Border Fence for nearly two hours. Eventually both
dogs picked up the scent and made the find

Bill Batson (Fern), Lee Ferry (Bracken) and Paul Renwick (Skye) were called
to assist in the search for a missing despondent male in the Peterlee area.
On additional dog team was on stand by if required. Dog teams were tasked
to search the frozen coastal and dense forest search areas. The missing
person was located by police on public transport in the area.

(Bryn) and Dave Mason (Megan) were called to assist Woodhead MRT and Edale MRT
with an ongoing search for a vulnerable male in the Warncliffe Woods/Don Valley
Area of Sheffield. Dog teams were stood down en route when the Misper turned up
at his home address.

Alex Lyons (Max) Nicki Lyons (Cavos) Matt Robertson (Amber) Catherine Clarke
(Jilly) Were called by Cornwall SRT to assist in a search for a 15 year old boy
with aspersers syndrome missing from home, Concern was high as it was below
freezing and he was only wearing a tee-shirt. Found by a member of the public
who was searching for him, cold with cuts to his foot but OK.

Rich Hey (Molly) was called by North Yorkshire Police when the five
occupants of two off-road vehicles had become bogged down and lost ‘somewhere
in Swaledale’. Two other dog teams were on standby if required. Initial
reports were that two occupants and left to find help and not returned. Search
dog team requested to attend to assist with search. The Mountain Rescue
Team Leader contacted the group via mobile phone, and the search area was
narrowed down. The missing people were eventually located by a Mountain
Rescue team member 300m away from the nearest unmarked shooting track in the
middle of the moor. All occupants were located with the vehicles, and search dog
assistance was not required. Dog team assisted with evacuation of group
including one member of the party by stretcher.

Burley (Anya), Dave Warden (Nell) and Dave Mason (Meg) were called to assist in
the search for a missing, vulnerable & depressed female after discovery of her
car at the edge of open moorland. The weather was very cold and deteriorating
weather together with fading light. The missing person was found by team
members, safe & well during initial searches of moorland tracks.

Bill Batson (Fern) , Richard Hey (Molly) and Andy Colau (Tara) along with
colleagues from SARDA Lakes were called to search for a missing vulnerable male
whose car had been found parked at Grizedale Forrest Visitor centre late pm. The
missing person was later found deceased by a Mountain Rescue Team involved in
the search.

Dave Mason (Megan) Called along with Derby MRT by Derbyshire police to assist in
the search for a vulnerable 77 year old male who disappeared from his home on
the previous day. The misper was located outside of the search area by the
police after dawn

spoils for a missing blind 52 year man when his white stick was found on a
footpath leading into the clay workings

Mason (Megan) were put on standby to assist Edale, Glossop, Buxton & Woodhead
MRT’s search for a missing runner from the Marsden to Edale fell race. Due to
worsening weather event organisers became increasingly concerned for her
welfare. As search plans were being formulated the missing runner was located
safe and well out of the area.

YDP DOG FIND 1 PERSON
Andy Colau (Tara) were called to assist UWFRA in the search for a missing
vulnerable female from Boroughbridge. Her crashed car was located near
Litton Village with doors open wide and no occupant inside. Police did
preliminary search overnight and a RAF Sea King Helicopter searched using heat
detection equipment. Upper Wharfedale Fell rescue Association called
in by Police for 10 am start. Tara showed a lot oif interest in a wooded area
being searched by Andy but could not locate anyone, and asked for a Police dog
to be brought into the area to attempt to "flush" the missing person out if
there and moving around. The person walked out of the wood Andy was
searching when a police dog was brought into the area.

who had been overtaken by darkness with no torches in Wye Dale between Topley
Pike and Litton. The missing people were located by police officers near
Blackwell Mill.

Clarke (Jilly) were called to assist Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Tavistock
to search for a 55 year old despondent man after his car was found in Yartor car
park Dartmoor. He was found by Police helicopter sitting 1 km down stream from
his car.

(Anya) were called to assist Buxton and Kinder MRTs search for an elderly lady
missing from a care home near Macclesfield. Stood down en route when the lady
was discovered by walkers sadly deceased.

11 search dogs and hanlers who were on a training weekend in the Peak
District attended a search in the Delemere Forest area of Cheshire for missing
person who was thought to be in the forest. The search was stood down on
Sunday after nothing was found.

male in the Anglesarke area of Lancashire in an area of disused quarries.
The missing person was found by police and evacuated to hospital with injuries
from a fall from the quarry top.

located by UWFRA members

prepared to hide out and commit suicide missing overnight

David Warden (Nell) were called to a roadside where a dog had been found
sitting on a coat. Police were concerned that there may have been a person
close by, however no one was found and it was assumed that due to its' size
(thought to be an 18 month old bull mastiff cross with great dane), the dog may
have been abandoned. The dog had no microchip and so could not be traced.

called to help SARDA South Wales whist training in the area. A walker had
got lost and contacted Police stating he was not prepared for a night on the
hill. The walker was located outside of the search areas having walked all

called along with Edale, Buxton and Kinder MRT's to search for two lost walkers
and their dog on Kinder Scout in thick mist and failing light. They were located
by Biscuit and John in the grough system between Crowden Brook and Crowden Head
safe and well.

search for the driver of a car involved in a RTA at Caddover Bridge Dartmoor who
had walked on to the moor. Stood down at 05:00 when Police managed to contact
the missing driver on his telephone

by Police.

autism missing from home. He was located as dogs were being deployed in
the middle of a river by Cornwall SRT members cold and wet, after a member of
the public had reported seeing him walking down to the river.

young soldier who had become separated from his troop.
When he failed to located them he came across another troop and bedded down with
them for the night, however in the morning he realized that they were not his
troop and spoke to the section commander of that troop ! A search was
organised by his section commander of his troop, when this search failed
Swaledale MRT was contacted.

assist Oldham MRT after a walker on the Pennine Way had reported hearing cries
for help around Black Moss reservoir. The search proved negative.

Bleaklow. They were located by the Derbyshire Police Helicopter and evacuated
from the hill.

DOG FIND
Steve Ward (Bryn) on holiday in the lakes staying at England's remotest
youth hostel, Black Sail youth . At 10pm a walker entered hostel stating
he had left his brother on the fell. Cockermouth Team were called via a
satellite phone. On their arrival, STeve and Bryn set of to locate the missing
person. Bryn was indicating 15mins after setting off, on idscovering
a faint air scent. Fifteen minutes later Steve and Bryn reached the missing
person, in the valley below Windy gap at the top of the Ennerdale Valley.

Tavistock, DSRT Plymouth, DSRT Ashburton to search areas previously searched the
night before for the 68 year old woman, after Police enquires failed to get new
information. Found at 10:00, cold and confused by DSRT Tavistock members having
been walking about all night.

Tavistock in a search for a 68 year old woman missing from home with Alzheimer's
stood down at 02:00 with nothing found.

Dave Mason (Megan) was called along with Buxton team to Edale
following a call for assistance received from a D of E lost after walking on
Kinder Scout. Mobile phone contact was soon established and following a
conversation about their route and what they could see around them before it
became dark, their location was thought to be on the South Western side of
Kinder Scout. The group were quickly located and escorted off the hill.

Fairholmes in the Upper Derwent Valley to Assist Edale MRT search fort two
vulnerable 16 year old males were 4 hours over due from a mountain bike ride.
The pair turned up safe and well as the handlers were on route.

Rich Hey (Molly), Kev Stead (Gyp) and Paul Renwick
(Skye) were contacted whilst training Lake District in to assist Swlaedale
MRT to search for four teenagers on a DOE expedition. Had last been seen
in Arkengarthdale by assessors at 1300 on the previous day (18/08/2007). Group
missed their overnight campsite at Tan Hill Pub but were not reported missing
until 1300 the next day. Handlers had just arrived at RV when group arrived at
their intended final expedition destination having camped on the moor
overnight.All handlers stood-down.

SRT in a search for a 52 year old man missing from home, in the Porkellis area
near Helston. He was found after 7 hours of searching by CSRT members collapsed,
hypothermic and with back pain. He was then taken to Hospital by CSRT Land
Rover.

SRT Tavistock with a search for a 84 year old gent with altzmimers missing from
care home. He was found cold with cuts and bruising after 18 hours of
searching. Also involved were Dartmoor SRT Plymouth, Dartmoor SRT Ashburton,
Dartmoor SRT Okehampton, Cornwall SRT, 2x HM Coastguard teams, Cornwall Fire &
Rescue and six Devon & Cornwall Police Dogs.

called in the early hours by Dartmoor SRT Tavistock, to assist in the search for
5 Duke of Edinburgh expedition teenagers who had not reached their overnight
camping location. Teenagers located safe and well camped by a steam by
Dartmoor SRT Tavistock foot team.

inebriated male in Eldwick; Keighley area. Incident terminated after initial
search due to lack of reliable information.

were called to assist Dartmoor SRT Tavistock. After a tent, personal and camping
gear, had been found with no one about. Stood down on route when person returned
to recover tent, which they had abandoned due to bad weather.

Dave Humphrey (Storm) Were called to assist Exmoor SRT with a search for a
missing man in Prolock. The missing person was suffering from dementure,
and following an argument with family walked off in to thick woodland.

Derby MRT to search for a 37 year vulnerable male missing on Cannock Chase.
Search stood down when the misper was located by the police and evacuated by
Derby MRT.

Catherine Clarke (Jilly) Matt Robertson (Amber) were called to assist Dartmoor
SRT Tavistock, to search for a woman walking her dog on Dartmoor when very thick
mist descended causing her to be misplaced. After the search manager had spoken
to the woman on the telephone it was decided to send Search Dog Catherine to Fox
Tor were they found the woman and her dog, safe and well. With the assistance of
six DSRT team members the woman and her dog were walked to nearest road head and
recovered by police and team landrovers.

Rich Hey (Molly) was called to assist in the search for a missing female in
the Leighton Reservoir area near to Masham. Rich was stood down en routre
when the missing person was located by police.

Ian Bunting (Tyke) , John Coombs (Biscuit) , Steve Ward (Bryn) , Simon Adams
(pip) and , Dave Mason (Meg) were put on standby along with Edale and Buxton
MRTs to search for an over due Duke of Edinburgh's group. Teams stood down when
the group turned up under their own steam after taking a wrong turn earlier in
the evening

DOG FIND (1 Person)
Kevin Stead (Gyp), and Paul Renwick (Skye) were called to continue the search for
the missing soldier from the previous day as flood levels had subsised. Shortly after starting search Gyp indicated on a
Berge rucksack cover, which was duly retrieved and logged. Further into
the search Gyp gave a very strong indication on a still pool in the stream. The
three dog handlers returned to the pool at the request of the Police Search
Advisor (POLSA), and all three dogs indicated. The pool was investigated
by Police Divers – nothing found. The POLSA then initiated an in-depth search
upstream from indication where the body was located by Search Team
approximately 150m from the point where the dogs had indicated.

Des Toward (Misty) and Rich Hey (Molly) were called to assist in a multi
agency search for a soldier who had fallen into a flooded river in the Catterick
area. Both dogs indicated on a number of military equipment items close to
the river however due to the flood conditions it was too dangerous to approach
the river banks to search closer to the flooded river
area.
11 June 2007 NESRA
Des Toward (Misty) and Paul Renwick (Skye) were called to search for a
missing male who had left home after a domestic disturbance. The
male left home with the intention of killing himself. Des and Paul searched an
area of Woodland near his home where his vehicle was found.

Ian Bunting (Tyke) and John
Coombes (Biscuit) were called with Edale MRT to investigate shouts for help from
the Burbage Valley near Hathersage in the Peak District. Whilst searching
a number of corridors, various groups wild camping reported a group of teenagers
looking for one of their group who was lost. Further questioning revealed that
the group was camping near by. The group was located and revealed that one of
them had been lost and that they had been shouting earlier in the evening. All
were now safe and well so the teams were stood down.

Ian Bunting (Tyke) and John Coombs (Biscuit) called with Edale MRT to
search for a lady missing from a campsite near Bakewell whom police thought
would harm herself. Dog teams were stood down whilst responding when the
Lady concerned was located walking past Bakewell Police Station by team search
controllers.

Catherine Clarke (Jilly) and Dave Humphrey (Storm) were called to search for a 3
year old boy reported missing by 8yr old boy. He had last been seen at top of a
building site, which had been searched by Police Dogs, whilst the surrounding
area was searched by Oakhampton team and SARDA Dogs. Search terminated after
thorough search of large area and no further reports of missing child by parents

to search for a party of seventeen who had reported 2 persons missing. Main
party located and escorted off, 2 persons missing had walked ahead and met up
with a waiting coach

Brian Allport (Gem) and Paul Renwick (Skye) were called to search for a missing
male who had left home after a domestic argument . Paul and Skye were on
exercise with a RAF Sea King helicopter and were flown with 6 other MR team
members to the rendezvous point.. The missing person was located by County
Durham Constabulary out of the area some 10 minutes later and the incident stood
down

Andy Colau (Tara) and
Kevin Stead (Gyp) were called at 22:20 to assist with search for a missing
despondent male who having spent the day drinking decide to commit suicide in
the Malham Cove area. Andy was tasked to search the path to Malham Cove and the
area around the base of the cove. The missing person
surrendered himself to
the Police in a confused and stressed condition at 12:20.

Alex Lyons (Aiken), Nicki Lyons (Cavos), Catherine Clark (Jilly), Dave
Humphries (Storm), Matt Robertson (Amber) and two SARDA south Wales handlers
Caroline Morton (Keeper) Mike Marchant (Coire) were tasked to help with the
search and evacuation of children on the Ten Tors expedition which was cancelled
due to poor weather.

DOG FIND (3 Persons)
Alex Lyons (Aiken), Nicki Lyons (Cavos), Catherine Clarke (Jilly), Dave
Humphries (Storm), Matt Robertson (Amber) with navigators from DSRT Tavistock,
Cornwall SRT, Central Brecon Beacon MRT and Exmoor SRT were called to
assist Exmoor SRT to search for three children aged 10 - 12 missing when playing
hide and seek. They had got stuck in very dense undergrowth and were not able to
get back. Cavos and Storm indicated at the same spot but were unable to locate
because of the dense undergrowth. At 05:45 when the helicopter went to refuel
the children were heard to shout for help. Dave with Storm and members of
Exmoor SRT located the children cold and wet 300 meters from where Cavos and
Storm had indicated previously

and Steve Ward (Bryn) were called with Edale and Derby MRT’s to search for a
missing male in Linacre Woods near Chesterfield. The missing person was located
by Tyke and Ian Bunting @ 1815hrs at the head of a secluded wooded gulley.

Ian Bunting and Tyke were called to assist Derby MRT in a search for a missing
child near Rutland Water. Stood down en route when the child turned up safe and
well.

Alex Lyons (Aiken) Nicki
Lyons (Cavos), Matt Robertson (Amber) and Catherine Clarke (Jilly). Were
called at 22:00 to assist Dartmoor SRT (Tavistock) to search for a man who had
been wild camping on Dartmoor. He had telephoned the police stating, that he was
lost and his tent was disintegrating because of the weather. Found at 00:30 safe
but cold and wet by members of DSRT Tavistock. .

Alex Lyons (Aiken) Nicki
Lyons (Cavos) and Dave Humphrey (Storm). Were
called at 10:00 to assist Cornwall SRT to search for a missing mountain biker
near Penzance. He was seen the previous day by a farmer and his bike was found
later that day. Farmer telephoned the police to advise that the bike was still
there on Monday morning, stood down at 19:00 with nothing found.

Simon Adams (Pip) were called to assist Calder Valley team at 23:15 to search
for a vulnerable 76yr old missing from home. Stood down on arrival at incident,
the missing person had been located by police (had been admitted to hospital).

Lee Ferry (Bracken) and
Paul Fell(Holly) were called at 16:30 to help search for a missing vulnerable
40yr old male missing from a nursing home in the Seaham area. Teams tasked to
search open ground and urbal areas, assited by police helicopter. Stood down at
23:00 when misper was found outside of the designated search area.11 April 2007 NESRA
Paul Renwick (Skye) were called by Northumbria National Park MRT to search
for a 33 year old missing male despondent who left home after a fall out with
his girlfriend. The search for the missing person was high priority, as they had
left a suicide note. Police investigations on going.
06 April 2007 PDMRO
Ian Bunting (Tyke) and John Coombs (Bisuit) were called
at 03:40 to assist Edale MRT search for a missing 81 year old Altziemers
sufferer in the Rivelin Valley/Bell Hagg area on the Western Edge of Sheffield.
Search of woodland and countryside carried out by teams. The search was stood
down when allocated search areas had been completed with no success. Police
investigations on going.

26 March 2007 NESRA
Lee Ferry (Bracken) and Paul Renwick (Skye) were called by Cleveland SRT to help
search for a missing man who had left his house with the intention of
harming himself. Police “pinged” his phone to an approx location then
requested Cleveland SRT to undertake the search. Cleveland then called for
assistance for Teesdale and Weardale MRT and SARDA dogs. The missing
person was located hiding behind a wall shortly after the dogs were deployed .

Brian Allport (Gem) were called to search for a missing
48 yr old male with mental age of 6 who has dropped of by
taxi to meet friends at the wrong place in Newcastle and was not capable of
making this own way home. The missing person was found well but confused
by police.

Andy Colau (Tara) and Bill Batson (Fern) were called at 16:30 to Three
Peaks walkers pinned down by high winds near Whernside Summit, they had
called 999 but soon afterwards lost mobile coverage. They decided to try & walk
down the way that they had come. The female was dazed & cold when found by CRO.
Andy took them to his home for a change of clothes, biscuits & hot tea before
they set off home.

Brian Allport (Gem) were called to search for a missing female suffering
from Altzimers. The missing person was located the following morning at
the Metro Centre in Newcastle by police.

Nicki Lyons (Cavos) called at 15:00 to search for a 76yr old male missing
from home over night in St Keverne, Cornwall. Search terminated without a find
at midnight

Alex Lyons (Aiken) Nicki Lyons (Cavos) Matt Robertson (Amber). When
walking back from the previous callout Alex (Aiken) were tasked to search for an
other team reported down. They were found and evacuated by the helicopter after
it had dropped the other team at the hospital. Nicki (Cavos) Matt (Amber) were
stood down on route after returning from a National Training Weekend.

Alex Lyons (Aiken) was called to assist Dartmoor SRT Tavistock in the search
for a team of 8 15/16 year olds who had telephoned the Police stating the one of
their team had fallen and injured his leg. Alex was tasked to search and
pinpoint the position. They were found by members of DSRT Tavistock, who had run
ahead. Whilst the team were carrying the injured person on the stretcher, Alex
and his navigator were then tasked to walk the main group to the RV, to stop
them getting cold. The injured people were evacuated to hospital by RAF
Rescue Helicopter.

assist police in the search for a missing elderly female. The person was
located by team members and escorted home.

Ian Bunting (Tyke) were called to assist Edale, Buxton and Kinder teams
search for a father and son lost in thick mist on Kinder Scout. After the search
had commenced the mist lifted and they were able to make their way to the edge
path where they were met by an MR Section and escorted back to Edale.

Nicki Lyons (Cavos) Matt Robertson (Amber) and Catherine Clarke (Jilly) were
called to assist Dartmoor SRT Okehampton to search for a missing 77 year old
gent missing from home. Dogs stood down on route when the body of a elderly gent
was found by Devon Fire & rescue crew using thermal imaging equipment.

DOG FIND (2 Persons)
Paul Renwick (Skye) were called at 19:30 hrs by Teesdale and Weardale SRT to search for
two missing 70 year olds who had become stranded in cars in blizzard conditions with
limited visibility on exposed part of the B6278 road on moor land above Stanhope. With the extremely
poor weather Paul and Skye were deployed, with Skye locating the stranded people
in their vehicles in a very short time, with all occupants found well but very
cold

Were called to assist Dartmoor SRT Tavistock, to search for a female walker who
had reported to the Police that she had fallen and broke her ankle. She was
found and airlifted to hospital by the Devon Air Ambulance.

urban land and fields adjacent to houses for a 21yr old missing male. He was
located by local police, condition OK, at 01:00

Hey (Molly) were called to assist Swalewdale SRT in the search for a missing
82yr old male suffering from Alzheimer’s, who had been missing from home
for some time. The missing person was found by Public in ditch outside
search area suffering from a head injury.

Brian Allport (Gem) were called to assist police in the search for a missing
elderly female. The person was subsequently located deceased 9 days later
outside of the search area.

Alex Lyons (Aiken) and Nicki Lyons (Cavos) were called to assist Cornwall SRT to
search for a 46 year old male with mental health problems, it was reported to
the Police that he had been living rough in woodland, found safe but clod by
members of Cornwall SRT 10 minutes in to the search.

Tim Wood (Toggle) were called at 11:45 to assist
Scarborough SRT to
search for 64yr old male missing from home in Helmsley since 20:00 the
day before. Searched an area of wooded valley. Serach terminated at 16:10
without a find. Misper was sighted in Helmsley by a friend at 14:20 the
following day.

(Biscuit) were called to assist Edale and Woodhead MRTs search for 3 benighted
walkers on Derwent Edge. Search carried out in heavy snow. Located by MRT
section at Lost Lad unharmed and walked off the hill.

to assist Kinder MRT search for 2 missing fell runner overdue on an orienteering
event. Weather conditions were cold with heavy snow. The missing runners turned
up safe and well whilst dogs were on route.

(Biscuit) were called to search for a missing vulnerable female 47years of age.
The missing person was unfortunately located deceased in a pond by police whilst
dogs en route

Nicki Lyons (Cavos) Matt Robertson (Amber) & Dave Humphrey (Storm) Were called
at 18:00 by Dartmoor SRT Tavistock to assist in a search for a group of eight,
reported overdue from a walk. The group walked in to a local farm just as the
dogs were starting to search.
11 January 2007 NESRA
Brian Allport(Gem) and Ian Thompson (Beth) were called to assist
Northumberland National Parks and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Teams in the
search for a missing 56 year old in the Ingram area. The
misper had an argument with his girlfriend and walked out of the holiday cottage
where they were staying. The girlfriend
reported him missing when he didn't return.
Due to the inclement weather (rain and gales), the fact that he was ill equipped
, had high blood pressure, there was great concern for his safety. The exact
extent of his walking experience was also unclear and he did not know the area.
He was later found by police at Newcastle airport
11 January 2007 NESRA
Paul Fell (Holly) were called to assist Northumberland National Parks and
North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Teams in the search for a missing 56 year old in
the Morpeth area. The missing person was located by police outside of the
search area and the team was stood down.
06 January 2007 SWERA
Nicki Lyons (Cavos) were called by Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock)
to search for 10 missing 13 year olds from a Ten Tors training group. The group
had got into difficulties when they were unable to cross a swollen river and
then benighted. They were located by a MRC team cold and wet. They were assisted
off the moor by the MRC team, dog handler and navigator.
02 January 2007 CRO/Lakes
Andy Colau (Tara) were called at 15:00 to assist Kendal MR teams and 2
search dog teams from Sarda Lakes with the search for a missing canoeist on the
river Lune. His body was located 5 miles down stream from the initial incident.

Andy Colau (Tara) were called at 05:00 to assist with search for a
missing female walker who was
overdue on a walk from ‘festivities’ back to the farm where she was staying.
She was located by Lancashire Police helicopter as the dog team arrived at the
RV point.
